Miniature Horses and Shetland Ponies Help the Disabled

Miniature horses and ponies can assist the disabled and bring a sense of calm, joy and love to children with autism. A child with autism amazingly opens up to a small, sweet miniature horse at the Autism Center in New York.


A blind person in Ohio uses her beloved miniature horse to help her navigate streets, sidewalks, signals, and shopping malls. Below, the horse stops the blind person from tripping over a garden fence.

A blind man brought his miniature horse on a flight to Massachusetts to help him navagate his way through a convention center for an Internal meeting on helping the disabled where he was a Vice President.


A person disabled from birth finds love and a new zest for life when she is given a miniature horse for a companion pet.


Shortly after receiving the miniature horse, she began taking college courses with a goal of assisting disabled children through miniature horse ownership.

Interest in using miniature horses to assist the disabled is growing fast. The fact that a company is making a harness especially to be used by the blind shows there is definitely a lot of need where seeing-eye dogs fall short.
